My Experience

For more than 25 years, Deborah L. Dance has demonstrated her commitment to service and leadership on behalf of the citizens of Cobb County.

Known for her professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic, Dance was appointed and served as the Cobb County Attorney for six years. For the past three years, she served as a member of the Cobb County Planning Commission before resigning to run for Clerk of Superior Court.

Prior to her appointment as County Attorney, Dance served 18 years in the County Attorney’s Office. During her unblemished tenure, she excelled in client advisement, problem-solving, contractual matters, and litigation. She advanced through the ranks of the office and served as Assistant County Attorney for 12 years.

Dance is a graduate of the County’s Excel Management program and an alumni of Leadership Cobb and Honorary Commanders.

She is a member of the Cobb Bar Association and has been admitted to practice law in the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Education & Family

Dance earned her J.D. degree cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1989. After serving a clerkship in Savannah, she practiced law and served as a Magistrate Judge in the Athens area prior to making Cobb County her home.

Dance was previously married to the late Jeffrey Johnson, who also served the Cobb legal community, and has two sons, Robert Johnson, of Kansas City, Mo., and William Johnson, of Kennesaw.
